Elsevier partners with ESCMID to launch a new Open Access journal in microbiology and infectious disease: CMI Communications

Oxford | 11 de marzo de 2024

A new service for infectious disease researchers from Elsevier and ESCMID

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of a new open-access journal CMI Communications in partnership with ESCMIDopens in new tab/window, Europe’s leading society in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases.

Complementing and integrating with ESCMID’s prestigious official journal Clinical Microbiology and Infectionopens in new tab/window (CMI, Impact Factor 14.2), CMI Communicationsopens in new tab/window will publish manuscripts focusing on translational and clinical aspects of microbiology, infectious diseases and control, immunology, epidemiology, and public health. A 50% discounted rate for publication is available for authors accepted for publication in CMI Communications in 2024 and 2025.

CMI Communications is led by Editor in Chief Angela Huttner, MD, a research investigator and infectious disease physician at Geneva University Hospitals, Switzerland. Dr Huttner commented, “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this project to life. The new journal will publish articles that are of practical use to infectious disease clinicians and clinical microbiologists—and thus to their patients. We particularly want to help early-career professionals broaden their skills, knowledge, and career opportunities. This means we must meet them where they are. First submissions will have almost no formatting requirements and turnaround times will be short. CMI Com will host a regular podcast, and its website will include interactive features allowing debate, knowledge transfer and other exchanges. The new journal should be thought of as a living platform — a sort of workbench, an endoplasmic reticulum where many little ribosomes can get together to build good things — and not as a bundle of papers arriving once a month in the mail.”

ESCMID President Prof. Annelies Zinkernagel added, “ESCMID is excited to be adding CMI Communications to its portfolio. The new journal will both complement CMI and be its own, unique forum for the exchange of further knowledge and ideas. While it will work closely with the ESCMID study groups and the Trainee Association of ESCMID to promote their work, it will be open to any and all researchers in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases wishing to communicate their ideas and share their results.”

On behalf of Elsevier, Executive Publisher Andrew Miller said, “We are proud to deepen our partnership with ESCMID on this inspiring new launch. CMI Communications fits very well with Elsevier’s mission to support researchers and clinicians by curating and enriching research with high-quality data and analytics, helping address challenges at every stage of the research and clinical-practice journey.”
