Dr. Wei-Qiang Chen is a professor at the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IUE-CAS). He obtained his Bachelor and Doctoral degrees from the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, Beijing, and worked at the Yale Center for Industrial Ecology for five years before joining IUE-CAS in 2015. Dr. Chen’s research focuses on (1) industrial ecology, (2) urban metabolism and sustainability, and (3) materials basis of low-carbon and digital transition. His studies have been published in PNAS, Nature Climate Change, Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, Environmental science and Technology, Journal of Industrial Ecology, and other first-level journals. He was the founding president of Chinese Society for Industrial Ecology in 2015, and has been elected as the President-elect of International Society for Industrial Ecology in 2025.
