Profile

Yasuhiro Kashino
University of Hyogo, Japan
Yasuhiro Kashino received Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo (Japan) in 1990, supervised by Prof. Sake Katoh. He has built his academic career at Himeji Institute of Technology/University of Hyogo. During his research career, he performed two international research cruises in Baffin Bay, Canada, to elucidate the mechanisms of high primary productivity in the polar ocean, and 7-times research works at Washington University in St. Louis for molecular and biochemical research on photosynthesis.
He pursued the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms and regulation system of photosystems through physiological, biochemical, molecular biological, and structural biological research using various micro-algae, including diatoms. Based on the achievement of basic science, he conducted research to develop a biofactory toward a sustainable, carbon-neutral world using diatoms.
