Professor Abhay Pandit is the Established Professor in Biomaterials and Founding Director of the Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices (CÚRAM) based at the University of Galway. His research deciphers glycosylation patterns in human pathological disease states to design biomaterials that therapeutically modulate these conditions. He is the author of 28 patents and has licensed four technologies to medical device companies. He has published over 400 publications in leading journals, including Science Translational Medicine, PNAS, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Biomaterials, and other high-impact outlets. He has been recognised with the George Winter Award 2022, the Chandra P Sharma Award 2023, and the Biomaterials Advances Innovation Award 2023 for his contributions to the field. Professor Pandit is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS), Irish Academy of Engineering, and International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE). He is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and currently serves as President-Elect of TERMIS (Global).
