Elsevier and Cairn.info partner on Moroccan Knowledge Graph Pilot

Cairn.info and Elsevier are proud to announce their data integration collaboration to increase the visibility of Moroccan researchers. This project aims to establish a Moroccan knowledge graph pilot, the foundation of extended analysis, by combining scientific content accessible on Cairn.info with those indexed in Scopus.

The objective

Having the broadest and most reliable data foundation possible is a major challenge for research stakeholders to optimize the monitoring of scientific publications and to increase the visibility of researchers. That is why Cairn.info and Elsevier have launched this project to validate the feasibility of integrating scientific articles indexed in Cairn.info and in Scopus, by developing a joint Moroccan knowledge graph pilot based on the publications of Moroccan researchers, thereby optimizing the analytical scope for measuring impact and visibility.

The content of the pilot

The main objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of integrating Cairn.info and Scopus data to better reflect the scientific footprint of Moroccan researchers, including publications in French and Arabic accessible on Cairn.info, and this thanks to the Insight Graph service developed by Elsevier.

As Thomas Parisot, Deputy General Manager of the Cairn.info platform, notes: “This pilot project demonstrates our commitment to continually highlighting francophone scientific publications, with the aim of increasing researchers’ visibility. By associating Cairn.info with Scopus data, it is about serving scientific communities through the technologies and methods developed by Elsevier and the contents of Cairn.info and Scopus.”

The project aims to provide researchers, institutional decision-makers, potential collaborators and publishers with information and indicators, regardless of the language of the journal in which the article is published, thereby contributing to a better understanding of Moroccan research, whether it is for identifying experts or assessing the quality of Moroccan research.

Technical aspects

Technically, this ad hoc knowledge graph creation involves translation, conversion to XML, disambiguation, and articulation of data around researchers’ profiles, pivot elements, such as journals and institution profiles.

“The Moroccan Knowledge Graph pilot offers new perspectives through the articulation of data from journals indexed by Cairn.info and by Scopus to form the most complete analytical field possible, regardless of language, with the obtaining of academic impact data, which are intended to be complemented in the future by indicators of economic and societal impact,” notes M’hamed el Aisati, Vice-President Analytical and Data Services, Elsevier.
