Elsevier was pleased to participate in the multinational discussion on elevating Egypt's academic landscape

Amsterdam, February 13, 2024 – Elsevier, the renowned Dutch company facilitating knowledge dissemination, proudly orchestrated a pivotal dialogue session between the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, and the Netherlands Ambassador to Cairo, Peter Mollema. Minister Ashour underscored the significance of international cooperation, particularly in vital sectors like agriculture, water and clean energy. Acknowledging the Egyptian Knowledge Bank's (EKB) instrumental role in advancing scientific research and elevating university standings, Minister Ashour emphasized the imperative of sustained support for such initiatives. He also commended Elsevier for its partnership with EKB, facilitating access to premium research and data, thus augmenting the quality of research endeavors in Egypt.

Elsevier's Scientific Research Advisor in Egypt and North Africa, Mr. Mohamed Raed, shared a striking revelation during the session: Egypt has outstripped all African nations in scientific output since 2020, with over 200,000 research papers published and citations exceeding the global average by 38%. This remarkable feat underscores Egypt's unwavering commitment to fostering scientific research and innovation, backed by substantial investments in research infrastructure and international collaborations.

The presence of Dr. Yasser Refaat, Vice-Minister of Scientific Research Affairs, and representatives from 15 Egyptian universities underscores Egypt's steadfast dedication to international research partnerships. It reflects the nation's eagerness to harness international expertise to drive innovation and development.

By forging alliances with eminent entities like Elsevier and leveraging the expertise of countries like the Netherlands, Egypt aims to fortify its research capabilities and cultivate a robust knowledge economy.
