Dr. Kolawole Banwo is a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, University of Ibadan, and a Visiting Scientist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria. His research centers on food microbiology, particularly the microbiome of traditional fermented foods to enhance bioactive compounds, develop functional foods, and improve food safety through mycotoxin detoxification using lactic acid bacteria and yeasts. His work aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and well-being), and 12 (responsible consumption and production). He actively teaches, supervises, and mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students, while supporting emerging researchers in food safety and microbiology to advance sustainable and health-focused food innovations.
